Getting started
Where do my steps come from?
From Apple Health, which combines what your iPhone counts while you carry it with what your Apple Watch counts while you wear it into one daily total. Stepdy reads steps, distance and active energy from Health and shows the same daily total. Groups and races use the step counts of your iPhone and Apple Watch directly.
Do I need an Apple Watch?
No. An iPhone on its own is enough. With an Apple Watch, the steps it counts are included as well, and the Watch app shows your day, your group's board and a race in progress.
Which devices does Stepdy run on?
iPhone with iOS 18.0 or later and Apple Watch with watchOS 11.0 or later. There is no iPad layout and no Android version.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, email or password. Stepdy sets up what the rankings need in the background, and Delete account & data removes all of it.
Goal, streaks and the Step Wallet
How do I change my daily goal?
Tap your profile picture on the Steps screen and choose Daily goal. The slider runs from 5,000 to 20,000 steps; you can also type any goal from 1,000 to 60,000.
How is my streak counted?
Every day you reach your goal adds one to your streak. A short day can still keep it going in two ways: a rest day (you choose none, 1 or 2 a week, free) or, with Pro, the Step Wallet. Stepdy keeps the last three days open, so steps that reach Apple Health late still count.
What is the Step Wallet?
A Pro feature that banks the steps you walk past your goal, up to one goal's worth a day and 5 goals' worth in total. On a day you fall short, it covers the difference so your streak survives, as long as you walked that day.
Why does a day show as a rest day?
Because you missed the goal on a day your rest-day allowance covered. Stepdy marks it as a rest day rather than pretending you reached the goal.
Friends, groups and races
How do I start a group?
Open Ranks, choose Friends and create a group. Share its six-character code, its link or its QR code; anyone who has it can join, so share it only with people you know.
How many groups can I be in?
As many as you like. On the free plan you can create 1 group of your own; Pro lets you create as many as you need.
How does a step race work?
Pick someone from one of your groups, a target from 2,000 to 50,000 steps and a time limit of 1 to 7 days. The first to the target wins, or whoever has more steps when time runs out. A race in progress shows on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.
What is a group challenge?
Your group against another group. Ask the other group for its code, then choose a pace of 5,000 to 20,000 steps per person per day and a length of 3, 7, 14 or 30 days. Both groups race to the same target, the pace times the number of people in your group times the days, and every member's steps count; the first group to reach it wins. On the free plan you can start one while none of your step races is running.
How do I add friends?
By username, with your friend link or with a QR code. Friends are mutual: the other person accepts your request, and then you see each other on the Friends board and in the Feed.
Can I stay off the public rankings?
Yes. Tap your profile picture on the Steps screen and turn off Publish my steps to leaderboards. Your row is removed from the world and country rankings; the groups and races you are in still see your steps.
How do I report or block someone?
Every message, post, comment and profile can be reported, and its author blocked, from its menu. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours.
Water
How do water reminders work?
They are off until you turn them on. Choose every 1, 2 or 3 hours between a start and an end time; the reminders stop for the day once you reach your water goal, and each one has a button that logs a glass.
Is my water saved to Apple Health?
No. Your water log stays in Stepdy on your iPhone.
Activities, Apple Watch and widgets
How do I record a walk or a run?
Open Activities, choose an activity (82 kinds) and start. Outdoor activities use GPS to draw your route and measure distance and pace; you can lock the screen while you go.
What does the Apple Watch app do?
It shows today's steps with your goal ring, your group's board and a race in progress, and adds complications for the watch face. When you record an activity on your iPhone with the Watch on, the Watch measures your heart rate and saves the activity to Apple Health as a workout.
Are there widgets?
Yes: 10 widgets for the Home Screen and Lock Screen (today's steps, water, your streak, your group, a race and more) and 2 Control Center buttons.
Can I use Siri?
Yes. Ask Siri for today's step count, your streak or your place in your group, or set your daily goal; the same actions are in the Shortcuts app.
Privacy and data
What leaves my iPhone?
Your step totals and profile (name, username, country, photo) for the rankings, the groups, races and messages you take part in, and the posts you choose to share. Detailed Health records, such as individual samples, heart rate and routes, stay on your iPhone unless you post an activity. The privacy policy lists everything.
Does Stepdy show ads or sell data?
No ads on any plan, no tracking, and no data sold. Stepdy collects anonymous usage statistics to improve the app.
How do I delete my account?
Tap your profile picture on the Steps screen, then Delete account & data and Delete everything. Your profile, groups you created, messages, posts and friends are removed from the servers, and your data from the iPhone.
Subscriptions
How do I cancel Stepdy Pro?
On iPhone open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Stepdy. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends to avoid renewal. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
I paid but Pro isn't unlocked.
Tap your profile picture on the Steps screen and choose Restore purchases while signed in with the Apple Account you paid with. If Pro still doesn't unlock, write to us with the date of purchase.
